What I Do
When buying an apartment or building a house, it’s important to think in advance about thermal insulation and heating systems. Any shortcomings will become noticeable with the arrival of winter. One of the most effective solutions for comfort and energy efficiency is underfloor heating. This system provides heat from the bottom up, ensuring even air circulation and a cozy atmosphere.
Underfloor heating consists of a heating element and the floor covering above it. Today, the market offers three main types: electric, water, and film (infrared).
🔌 Electric Heating

Based on fiberglass heating cables placed on the floor surface (at 5–15 cm intervals) or attached to fiberglass mats.

When voltage is applied, the cable heats up and warms the floor.

Offers flexibility of installation and works almost anywhere.

Controlled with a thermostat for power and temperature regulation.

Downsides: higher electricity consumption and the need for fire-resistant finishing materials to reduce fire risks.
💧 Water Heating

Uses small-diameter pipes under the floor covering, through which hot water circulates.

Highly efficient and ideal for cottages or private houses (80–100 m²).

Water circulation is maintained by a pump, and the temperature is regulated by a boiler or heating element.

Limitations: installation is usually forbidden in apartments above the first floor due to building regulations.
🌐 Film (Infrared) Heating

Consists of two layers of durable polymer with a carbon heating element inside.

Economical in energy consumption and requires no concrete screed, keeping floor levels unchanged.

Easy to install and dismantle; compatible with most floor coverings.

Downsides: significantly more expensive (40% higher on average than electric or water systems).
⚖️ Smart Heating Solutions
Since temperature needs may vary even within the same room, many homeowners combine different heating types or install intelligent thermoregulation systems that adjust heat output based on both indoor and outdoor temperatures.
